Hello all. I thought it would be nice if we introduced ourselves! Here on Unprocess I intend to build a community of down-to-earth and curious people who want to come together and share ways of building a less processed life.
This substack is not about ‘giving up’ anything.
It’s about reclaiming things: real food; human contact; time spent in ‘reality’; contact with nature; mindfulness; gratitude and more.
I am very determined there will be no judgement here - no matter what you eat or how you live your life, you are welcome. Intention is everything and we are all at different stages and have different capacities for change.
So please do take a moment to say hello in the comments, and also, a reminder that that Unprocess section of the app is there for you to use as well. Feel free to initiate discussions there, ask questions, share ideas…it is your space.
Most of you who are here will already know me, but here goes anyway! I’m Milli, I’m a writer and a mum of three. We live a busy family life in Somerset and, although I’ve always been a foodie, I’ve become more interested in the role of food in health in the past few years, and now written a book about it.
I don’t see the issue as just being about food, though. Through writing the book I’ve noticed patterns that are reflected in other areas of our lives, in particular our modern way of consuming mindlessly and then discarding - whether that’s our screen use, our clothes, our cosmetics or our food. Our loss of contact with nature, and our loss of eye contact and physical concact with each other is also reflected, and I’d like to explore these wider issues here with you too, and continue working to change them in my own life.
So - please introduce yourself, and thank you so much for being here!
Remember that for the whole of this month I’m offering an entire year’s sub for just £17.50.
ALL posts on Unprocess will be paywalled, as will the comments section, and the chat area of the app.
I really look forward to hearing all about you and why you are here. Love Milli. xx
Hi I’m Lucy, also a mum of three. This is my first paid for substack subscription, mainly because food and feminism are two of my special interests. (My others are parkrun and our hunter gatherer past - I sometimes wish the agricultural revolution had never happened.)
I am lucky enough to work part-time and I feel like a HUGE proportion of my time off is spent on food prep (and doing the washing up it generates). I would love to know how on earth people who work full time (and don’t have a wife) manage it. Most of the time my kids don’t even eat what I’ve made which is slightly depressing. Feeding 3 fussy kids is HARD.
Hello - I’m Lynn - a retired midwife - I have 3 adult children and 7 grandchildren - my family have always been obsessed with food - I have a history of greed and dietary fads - with a daughter who was a ‘natural vegan body builder’ at one time (between having babies 2 and 3 of 4) a son who’s a chef and another who was a professional sportsman who had dieticians constantly… it’s fair to say food is important. These days I’m half the woman I was l, still obsessed with food vegetarian and low dairy - but being retired I cook most everything from scratch. Because I lived in a remote location on an island for some years I’m pretty good with store cupboard staples - I use a lot of dried foods nuts and fruit etc. my food prep this evening wasn’t unusual - soaking turtle beans and chickpeas to cook in morning - cake mix soaking - porridge soaking - coconut yoghurt maturing - kombucha topped up… I’m not virtue signalling - just showing how food rules my life… every day. I’ve tried ‘not being so bothered’ but then I eat more rubbish put on weight and feel crap - so as I have the time and interest this is what I do. So there - it’s obvious why Milli’s fab book and Substack interests me.
