What is the problem with UPF?
A look at some evidence into why these food-like products are causing us harm
Here’s another in a series of ‘Starter’ posts to give you some basic info on ultra processed food (UPF).
In the last one, I explained how UPF is defined. That post is a good place to start if you’re still not sure, for example, what the difference is between processed and ultra-processed…
This week, I want to talk you through some of the evidence that suggests that UPF is doing us harm.
Unprocess won’t only be about UPF. I want to bring in other areas that I feel are very much related: screen use, human beings disconnection from each other, the benefits of time in nature, plastics and the environment, and more. I want to create a place where we can explore the many different ways to unprocess our lives.
But UPF is a really good place to start!
It’s not about ‘giving up’ UPF.
It’s about reclaiming real food, and the joy of making and sharing it.
But why bother?
Let’s have a look at some of the evidence.
